HEALTH AND
BEAUTY
I
don't know about you, but I can't get enough beauty tips! Working as a
cosmetologist for over 9 years and as a cosmetology instructor for 3 years, I've learned many tips on how to look your best
every day. I've listed quite a few tips from calming the frizzies in
your hair to getting your nail polish to dry faster. Take a few minutes
and start to feel better already! And if you've got some great health and
beauty tips - send 'em in!
To remove buildup on
your hair - add a tablespoon of baking soda to your shampoo and create a nice
lather. Leave it on your hair for 2-3 minutes then rinse out and condition
as usual. The baking soda helps the buildup to sort of dissolve off the
hair strand. Plus, many salons do this to prepare hair for a perm so that
it takes and holds a lot better!
To help cover up
dark
circles under your eyes, apply a yellow conscealor or even some yellow eye
shadow before you apply your foundation. The yellow counteracts with the
dark/purple color to make it appear "neutral".
Attn: Chocolate
lovers, a great lip gloss! 1 1/2 teaspoon cocoa butter, 1/2 teaspoon
coconut oil and 3 mini chocolate chips. Microwave 30 seconds or until
melted. Stir well, pour into a small container and let cool before
applying to lips!
A drop
of tea tree oil on a pimple is said to have it gone in a day!
Make your own
body scrubs!! Take about a cup of granulated sugar and add some oil to it, just
enough to give it a little bit of moisture( you can use your favorite type of
oil, but I even used regular vegetable oil). The sugar is a natural
exfoliant and the oils are very hydrating to the skin.
Before applying
nail polish, rub some polish remover over top your nail bed to remove your natural
oils. This will help your nail
polish to stay longer.
To help
fight acne in the summer - stir 1/2 tsp of hydrogen peroxide into a 4 oz
bottle of your favorite lotion. The peroxide will help to fight against
bacteria that grows easily in the hot summer months.
Get rid
of smelly shoes! Put them in a zip lock bag and then toss them in
the freezer overnight.
1hour
before a special event (or every other day) apply some baby oil to your cuticle
to soften and moisturize them. They'll look great! They'll be greasy
at first, but it'll soak in.
Apply
lotion immediately after you get out of the shower. This helps to lock in
the moisture (water) even better.
Use
hairspray to remove nail polish and hair color from your clothes. Saturate
the stain with the hairspray as soon as possible and before you get the stain
wet.
Place
cotton balls or rolled up toilet paper between your toes before you begin
polishing them. This is a lot more comfortable than those toe
seperators.
For
VERY thick hair, a dab of baby oil can help to calm down the frizzies.
A
little bit of Pam cooking spray will help to dry your nail polish. Be
careful not to use too much or it will never dry.
To
get deodorant out of your clothes, rub with a pair of your nylons. It'll
come out right away.
If
you actually use the oil that comes with your hair clippers, they'll last at
least twice as long.
For
a good hair conditioner, try some beer.
Put
your alarm clock away from your bed so that you have to get out of bed to turn
it off.
Make
a sarong for yourself or others. All you need is 2 yards of material, but
make sure it is somewhat stretchy and not stiff. Then, on the short ends,
cut about 2" in and about 1/2" wide and tie them in knots. Then,
wrap them around and use 2 safety pins to pin them in place. You can also
attach beads to the fringes if you'd like. You can also make sarongs for
all the holidays.
Before
swimming in a chlorinated pool, apply conditioner to your hair and leave it in
while you swim. This will help to protect your hair from the chlorine and
turning green.
God
bad dandruff? Try using some vinegar on it.
When
you color your roots at home, try just applying the color to the roots and for
the last 5-10 minutes of the processing time, apply the rest of the color to the
rest of the hair. You're hair will look more natural and not come out
two-toned.
Put
chapstick or glue on a paper cut.
Did
you know that those strips used to pull out your blackheads actually work.
Though they'll all be back in 2 days. Try using a bit of salt water instead.
Don't
buy all those fancy creams for your feet. All you'll ever need is a good
foot file and some lotion (and someone to do the massaging!!)
Applying
a little foundation to your lips before your lipstick helps the color to stick a
little bit better.
Did
you know that perm solution can also straighten your hair?!
Warm
up your eyelash curler with your blow dryer before you use it. It's
sort of like a curling iron for your lashes then.
Men,
before you shave, apply a hot towel to your face to soften up your
hair. It'll make shaving a lot easier and more comfortable.
Use
cheap conditioner to shave your legs! It's a whole lot cheaper than
those shaving creams and it works the same.
If
you forget sunscreen, at least apply some lotion to keep the redness
down.
Pluck
your eyebrows right after you get out of the shower. This is when
they're nice and soft and a lot easier to work with.
Brushing
your tongue really does help with bad breath.
For
dry hands or feet, apply some Vaseline or white petroleum jelly liberally
and then put on some cotton socks or gloves and go to bed. You'll be
amazed how they feel in the morning.
A
little bit of talcum powder or baby powder over top your deoderant helps
to keep the wetness away.
Take
a chocolate bath! Add these ingredients to a nice warm bath: 1 cup cocoa
powder, 1 cup powdered milk, 1 tsp of peppermint extract and a few shakes of
cinnamon. This is great for dry, rough winter skin.
Don't
forget to wash out your make-up brushes regularly! Gently wash them in
mild soap and water and let them air dry.
Got
nasty yellow nails? Mix up 1/2 cup sugar and 2 T of lemon
juice. Make a paste and rub in into your nails then rinse.
